Summer vacations are a wonderful time when you can travel, relax, collect new experiences and simply enjoy your life. Unfortunately, more often than not, we see people dieting and working out really hard before their vacation, to only throw all the hard work away until the next summer. Yes, you deserve a long-awaited rest on your vacation, but you don’t have to sacrifice your fitness! In this article, I’ll give you five easy tips on how you can stay fit while on vacation and still have fun.

  1. Try out new activities

One of the fun ways to stay fit while on vacation, is to try out new activities you’d probably never do while being at home. If your vacation is in nature, it’s so easy to get some movement throughout your day. Go and explore some landscapes, hike in mountains or around the lake, kayak and swim in open waters. You can even try something that would tickle your nerves: how about a skydiving tandem?

It doesn’t matter what exactly you do, rather that you go out, experience life, get some movement and have fun! It will not only help you burn extra calories, but also bring you joy and with that lower your cortisol levels.

  1. Walk instead of taking a taxi

Is your vacation in a big city rather than at the seaside? No problem! Good walking can be done nearly everywhere and it can be fun too. Not only these extra steps will help you be healthier, but you will also see much more of the city you are staying in.

Next time you want to explore, take a walk instead of taking a taxi. Plan your walk route ahead to see if there is something interesting on the route. You may be surprised by how many amazing or even unexpected things you will see and experience. In any case, it will be much more insightful in comparison to if you were just sitting in a back sit of a taxi, that’s for sure.

  1. Engage with your kids

Are you going on a family trip with your kids? You wouldn’t believe how many activities you can do with them! It doesn’t matter how old your kids are with some creativity you can find a perfect active game for anyone! And yes, even for the kids over 30!

The most important rule here is to have fun: don’t try to convince other people or your kids to play. Be creative, and find something everyone truly enjoys.

To spice up the game, you can even create a prize for the winner.

  1. Start a step challenge

Here is another fun way to avoid a sedentary vacation: start a step challenge! If you are traveling with someone, you can start a challenge against the person you are traveling with. Or you set a step goal for you both and try to achieve it together.

If you have very active friends back at home, start a challenge with them, and try to beat each other every day. A little bit of a competitive spirit can be a great motivation to go out and explore new destinations!

  1. Do yoga or a quick circuit workout before breakfast

On some days all you might want is just to relax and do nothing. I mean, that’s still a vacation, right? And there is nothing wrong with that!

What you can still do, is at least 5 minutes of yoga or a quick circuit workout after waking up and before your breakfast. That way you still keep healthy habits at place, give your body a chance to wake up properly, while at the same time set your whole day for success.

Your vacation is just a few days up to a few weeks, don’t let that short amount of time to erase all of the hard work you’ve done before.
