A pair of 24-year-old identical twins takes the art of working with a sibling to the next level–and it appears that won’t be changing any time soon. Jenn and LeeAnne Wirth, two basketball professionals from Scottsdale, AZ, have risen to influencer status online by creating a brand centered entirely around their “double-trouble” image.
“We’ve always done everything together,” said Jenn in an interview with Icon, recalling that by growing up as the youngest of a family of six, the girls were always very close and often shared similar interests and goals. “So it was just natural that after we got out of college in 2021 we ended up working together as well.”
Even though the girls studied different majors in college, both continued to share their common interest in basketball. “We went to college for public relations and psychology, but we actually wanted to be overseas basketball players,” said the girls, furthering that since grade school playing basketball has always been their shared passion. “Unfortunately things didn’t work out that way, mainly because of COVID making traveling difficult,” they agreed.
Because of the pandemic, the girls were forced to try new things while waiting for the world to return to normal, so they did what any bored 20-something did during lockdown: took to social media.
While full-time social media content creation wasn’t the girl’s end goal, they soon found themselves rising to online fame, particularly after posting a basketball dribbling video on TikTok that was later republished by ESPN.
Their joint account now has over 350K followers on TikTok alone.
Now, the twins hope to expand their offerings outside of social media: Lee is studying for her personal trainer certificate and Jenn will be studying to receive her hormone-health certification. “We are super passionate about the health and wellness lifestyle and primarily hope to work with female athletes for many years to come.”
Here, the Wirth twins share their experiences with social stardom.
ICON REFINED MAG: How do you continue building your online presence?
WIRTH TWINS: To be honest, we don’t implement or fixate on social media strategy when it comes to our online presence. It started from a place of us posting content we had fun creating and took off from there – we’ve tried to stay true to that. We’re really passionate about health and wellness and we feel blessed to know that like-minded people have landed on our page. We hope they benefit from the content we work hard to create.
IRM: What have you found are the best ways to connect with your audience?
WT: We are always working on new ways to engage with our followers. We love to do polls, and we try hard to respond to DMs to acknowledge more personal details or questions that get brought up.
IRM: How do you cultivate a healthy mindset when you’re so immersed in social?
WT: Being identical twins, we have been compared our whole lives. Social media adds another element to that, but it’s nothing we aren’t used to dealing with. Rude comments will always be a part of working on social media unfortunately, but our joy is not rooted in what rude comments or DMs say, but rather the opportunity that we have to work together on something we are genuinely passionate about.
It can be hard to find a work/life balance when showcasing aspects of our life is part of our job. We challenge each other to make strides towards our goals, but then put the phone down and enjoy the here and now.
