Rich: besides being a nickname it’s a way that people define themselves or others, but what does it really mean? According to a dictionary, you may find that it’s most often used as a way to describe wealth or abundance. But being rich doesn’t have the same meaning for everyone, and for Kristen Crowley, 41, a former news anchor, she is “richer” now than ever before –but she’s not talking about money.
“If success, to you, means making a lot of money, then no, I’m not as successful because the first years of building a business are not about making money,” Crowley told Icon in an exclusive interview. “If you measure success as health, happiness and freedom, then yes, I am extremely successful.”
This entrepreneurial mother-of-two has spent the last several years building her own brand after leaving a decade-long position at a media company. She says that it was a risky decision, but for her, it ended up being the right choice.
“[As a news anchor] you have a lot of pressure to maintain an image and reputation and after I had my second child it just became too much. I knew I couldn’t keep doing it. I couldn’t stay at that job and be who and what I wanted to be.” It took Crowley six years to make the decision, and she is still actively involved with media but now on her own terms.
“I choose to move into fitness first after my second pregnancy and that led to my passion in helping women in the fitness industry with media and PR.”
Subsequently, Crowley became involved with Fitposium which helped kick off her personal business endeavors and landed her a feature in STRONG in 2019. She was then awarded the incredible honor of being named FITpreneur of the year just one year later at Fitposium 2020!
“That is what led to me meeting my business partner Jill Bunny and us founding reFRAME Your Biz. l made the decision to start three companies in under a year to work for myself to support women in the fitness industry.”
Crowley, with a considerable social media following, now markets herself as a media expert who helps others build their brands through coaching and marketing solutions. She often uses her social media presence as a way to inspire others.
“You are the one responsible for creating your own opportunities,” a portion of one of her recent posts reads. “Invest in yourself. Find solid support. Make a plan.”
Crowley continues to be very involved in supporting others –especially women– who seek encouragement to invest in their dreams by hosting business retreats, photoshoots, and so much more. You can get in touch with Crowley and her business through her Instagram and website.
