How the Coaching Industry Has Failed You

I am on my way to earning 7 figures for another year in a row. Want to know how I did this?

I kept going when no one was watching.

I invested when it didn’t make sense.

I relaunched when no one bought.

I showed up every day regardless of the situation.

I made bold movies before I was ready.

I didn’t look for instant gratification.

I stayed in my own lane and didn’t allow circumstances to define me.

I didn’t forget that the best part is the process.

Okay, do you have the perfect formula on how to replicate this so you too can make 7 figures? No? Is it because that sounded like a bunch of crap? Well, yes, because it is!

I copied that from some Instagram “business coach” distilling their advice on how to become a millionaire.

Let’s break down how pointless each of these steps actually are.

“I kept going when no one was watching.”

Why was no one watching? Was your content bad? Why not make better content so people actually watch it?

“I invested when it didn’t make sense.”

Well that is just plain stupid. If it doesn’t make sense, you shouldn’t invest.

“I relaunched when no one bought.”

The lack of detail in this is astonishing. Did you relaunch the same thing? Perhaps there was a reason no one was buying. Or did you change it and then relaunch it? That would make more sense but that is not what you said.

“I showed up every day regardless of the situation.”

This statement probably is the most upsetting as people are working their tails off to try and make it and this person just claims that all they need to do is show up and voila they have 7 figures.

“I made bold movies before I was ready.”

Soapbox platitude. Nothing more.

“I didn’t look for instant gratification.”

Sure you did. That entire social media post was a cry for gratification.

“I stayed in my own lane and didn’t allow circumstances to define me.”

I’m sorry, what?

“I didn’t forget that the best part is the process.”

Hold this bucket for me so I can puke in it.

There are so many problems with this outside of how ridiculously and audaciously unhelpful this bland, generic and vague instruction.

The first is that it creates cognitive dissonance for followers who negatively contrast their life and why they are not at the same place this individual is at. It does not include this person’s background, past, experience, privilege, connections, resources or even luck that helped them create their life which nets them 7 figures annually. They make 7 figures annually because of their unique set of circumstances that have culminated over years that they are conveniently ignoring in this post.

The second is that it not so subtly implies that this person has some secret that is the reason behind their success and thus you should be investing your money into them so you too can replicate their success.

This is the coaching industry failing you. You deserve better. Stop permitting these wannabe coaches to access not only your attention but also your wallet.

Demand your coaches actually teach you.

Demand your coaches actually lead you.
